Another day at work. We had a great weekend. It was the annual deer hunt, (actually the annual deer hike and come home exhausted weekend). We really had a blast. Mark, Nick, and Alex went camping on Friday with Todd and Jeff and I. We went out Friday morning and got camp set up and then just enjoyed the afternoon and evening. Mark made some wonderful stew that we all enjoyed. We had a nice camp fire and slept like baby's (nice and warm) with the camp stove that fits inside of Nick's tent. Really a lot of fun. The weather was so nice you couldn't help but enjoy it. We got up early Saturday morning and had a yummy breakfast and Uncle Scott and his boys, Tyler and Devin showed up about that time so we gathered up our hunting supplies and headed out. We had only been hunting for about 1/2 hour when Uncle Mark spotted a nice buck and was able to get it. He always manages to get a deer weather any of the rest of us see any or not.
Jeff had gotten his hunters safety badge this fall so he had a 22 and was hunting pine hens. We saw a few and he started to shoot at them. After a shaky start he managed to hit one and was really excited about it. After that first one he became deadly with his shooting and was able to get two more. He impressed me with the third one that he shot. It was a fair ways away and up in a tree and he got it with one shot. It is a big bird and will be really good eating. He was way excited and I was proud of him. I kind of think that he could care less if we say any deer or not as long as we were seeing pine hens. It was a lot of fun being with him and seeing him have fun. I think we all had a great time and enjoyed each others company. Mark, Scott, and I were even able to get in a little nap while the younger guys took a long hike, it was great. Hope all of you are doing well and enjoying good health and strength. We are truly being blessed as a family. We love and appreciate all of you our friends and family.

Pictures

This is Natalia, I am adding pictures for my dad. He told me a while back that he wanted them but he doesn't know how to add them.
Let me just tell you before you look at them, He and my mom have been working his butt off for a year building this house for Uncle Ralph and Aunt Gennie. It's amazing, I think it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. My dad is AMAZING!!!
This is the "Chicken" that is on their house that he gave to my mom for her birthday. This picture is deceiving cuz it looks small, it's actually like six feet tall. The outside of the house. These are the stairs, he did tile on the face and wood on the tops of every stair. So pretty! Tile around the fireplaces. There are actually two, don't know what happened to the picture of the other one. This is the kitchen/great room. He's also done a bunch more work but since they are still painting I couldn't get good pictures of everything. Very very awesome work, if you ever get a chance to look at this house you'll be so impressed!

Sunday, Oct.5

I have been reading several of your blogs this morning. Lots of fun reading about you and your families and all your activities. It is fun to read about you young parents and about your children. You get old like me and kind of forget what it was like having little children and the challenges that come with them.
I think Kathleen and I must live a boring life. It seems like all we do is work, sleep, and work some more. It is good we have Jeffrey to keep us on the go. I have been filling in a little bit as the second adult for his cub scout group. We went fishing a couple of weeks ago and Jeff caught the first fish of the group. He was really excited about it. He only has a couple of more requirements and then he should receive his wolf. He will go into the Webelows in December, already 10 years old.

Still working at Uncle Ralph's house. Todd and I are trying to finish up the decks and steps outside. The painters are supposed to be mostly finished with the inside in another couple of weeks and then we will have several odds and ends to finish up so they can use it for Thanksgiving. I need to have Whitnee or Natalia take some pictures and put them on my blog so all of you can see. I don't know how to do something as technical as that.

We are slowly (really slowly) trying to get some landscaping done in our yard. I just don't work near as fast or get as much done in 24 hours as I used to be able to do.

It is conference weekend and yesterday it rained all day long. It is raining again this morning. It started about 6am and has been raining steady since. We needed the moisture. Conference was really good and I enjoyed all the talks. I missed priesthood as I was here at work so I look forward to being able to read those talks.

I can't remember if I ever mentioned that Kathleen got a chicken for her birthday. It is actually a rooster weathervane. When we built our house we decided we wanted a weathervane so I build a coupola when I was shingling the roof but had never put a weathervane up so I told Kathleen she could get one for her birthday. She ordered one from a place in Maine. It really looks kind of neat. It stands about 5 feet tall with the directionals and all but on top of the house it really doesn't look so big. It is shinny copper right now but sadly will eventually turn kind of greenish. It is kind of fun to look at and watch it turn in the wind.

In one more hour I get to go home. I guess we are going to Brad and Natalia's this morning to watch conference with them and then to Matt and Krachel's to watch the afternoon session and eat dinner. I guess I won't get much sleep until tonight but it will be fun to see the kids and the GRANDKIDS!!!! They are so fun. I recommend that everyone have grandchildren.

After reading Bryant and Rebecca's blog, I don't think I will ever complain about being tired and not getting much sleep at night.

Saturday morning

Just getting ready to finish another 24 hours of work, glad it is nearly over. kathleen and Jeff came down last night and brought me dinner. Jeff had caught a fish the other night at scouts and wanted to cook it for dinner, it was really good as fish usually is.
Hard to believe another week is almost gone and September is coming to a close. Been a beautiful fall so far however.

We have been busy as ever it seems and my yard hasn't seen much activity. We are almost done with outside work at Uncle Ralph's house, hopefully we can finish the decks today, and then I can take a week or two to work in my yard while the painters are working on the paint.

Jeffrey is looking forward to the deer hunt and counting down the days. He can't wait to take a gun and shoot a grouse or rabit or something.

We are having a blast with our grandaughters whenever we get a chance to play with them. I recommend being grandparents to anyone.

BYU is doing great and Kurt got a chance to play last week. Wasatch won last night so things are looking up.

I watched part of the presidential debate last night and I have a lot of concerns. This country is still the greatest on earth but we certainly have our problems and some very serious ones. I think it is time we follow the Prophet's advice and put our houses in order if we haven't already done so.

I'm looking forward to a great weekend so I hope all of you have one as well.

We are expecting Kathleen's mom to come and spend the weekend with us. Her cousin passed away the other day and her funeral is in Spanish Fork this morning. The cousin got paralized in a car accident a few years ago and then her husband passed away about 3 years ago so it was a blessing for her. It will be fun to have grandma here for a couple of days.

old age

Age is catching up to me. I about failed my drivers lisence eye exam last year and have been getting by with some cheap reading glasses for the last two years so I decided it was time for an eye exam. My fears have been confirmed. I need glasses, bi-focals no less. I am not terribly fond of the idea of wearing glasses but I am sure getting tired of not being able to see.

The only problem right now is that the doctor put some drops in my eyes to dialate them and I can't focus on anything. Everything is so bright I feel like I need to go hide out in some dark closet for a while. Getting old is wonderful?!!
Back to work again. This is my home away from home, besides Uncle Ralph's house. I think all I do at home is sleep, I don't even hardly eat there anymore. Hopefully in a few more weeks we will have most of the things done at Uncle Ralph's house besides painting so I can start in my yard again.

Jeff has been to school for almost two weeks now and seems to like it. This weekend is Labor day and Swill days as well so it will be busy in the valley.

Whitnee got really sick during the night a few nights ago so Kathleen, TJ, and I took her to the hospital. They did some tests and things and then gave her a pain shot and sent her home. The suspected it could be her gall bladder so she went back the next day for an ultrasound. Sure enough, it is her gall bladder so she is having surgery at 10AM this morning to have it removed. She will be a little slower for a few days but should be much better in the future.

Krachel and Matt are blessing their baby on Sunday so we will have a nice family get together. Then it will be back to work, work, work!!!

August 25 Happy Anniversary

I'm afraid I am getting more forgetful all the time. kathleen reminded me as I was walking out the door this morning for work that today is our anniversary, how could I forget? It has now been 30 years of mostly bliss. There have been a few bumps in the road but has truly been a wonderful 30 years together. I could not have married a more wonderful woman who has truly been the better half of our marriage. She has made me a better person and inspires me to try to do better all the time.
We, Kathleen and I, are still enjoying the fact that we now have two beautiful grandaughters. Wow it is fun being grandparents. We should of had grandchildren sooner if I had know how fun they can be.

To celebrate our big day I am working a 24 hour shift and Kathleen went to work for 10 hours. Then it will be off to work at Uncle Ralph's house, life just does not slow down, but I sure have. It now seems to take me twice as long to do anything. Life truly is wonderful isn't it.

Olympics and hunters safety

I just finished watching the USA play Russia in volleyball, what a game. The US finally won in the 5th set. I am happy for them and especially for their coach.

Jeffrey passed his shooting and his written test this afternoon and got his hunters safety badge. I was a little concerned, he had been strugling with his shooting but came through like a real trooper this afternoon. We borrowed Uncle Scott's 22 and Jeff was able to handle it a little better. His gun is a little smaller and lighter than mine and so it was easier for Jeff to handle.

It has been a good day. The only thing better would be if I was home in my bed at the present time. Only 6 more hours to go and then I can go home, the only thing is is that then I will be at Uncle Ralph's house all day working. It is comming along nicely and really starting to look good. I hope everyone else has a good nights sleep tonight and pleasant dreams.

great being grandparents

Most of you know by now that Matt and Krachel had their baby girl last night. Her name is Alexis Rayla Greenwood. She weighed 7lbs 12 ozs and was 21 inches long. It sounds like mother and baby are both doing well and that dad is great as well. He even has a Notre Dame hat for her already. She looks really cute from the pictures. I am excited to see her.

Sunday, August 17

Whitnee thought we, (Kathleen and I) needed a blog spot so everyone can keep up with us. Kathleen and I still live in the 19th century so she had to creat this site and set it up for us. She talked me through signing up so we will see if I can still remember tomorrow. We might even figure how to put pictures on here once in a while.

We are busy building a house for Uncle Ralph and Aunt Jeanne. We were trying to put a yard in but it has kind of been put on the back burner the last month while we have been busy at the house.

We are busy trying to keep up with Jeff and the other kids as well. Jeff is signed up for hunter safety classes so we take him each Tuesday and Thursday evening. He only has two more classes to go and then he will be done with that. Kathleen took him school shopping the other day since school starts on Tuesday. Where did summer go to so fast? They came home with new school clothes and a Wii. Actually, he is taking piano lessons and I told him a while ago that if he would practice faithfully for 1/2 hour each day for at least two months we would buy him a Wii. He has actually been pretty good at practicing.

We enjoy our family and the grandchildren are a blast. Actually, we only have one grandchild at the present time and are expecting a second any day now. We enjoy reading blogs from family and friends so maybe we can keep in touch with some of you this way. Have a great evening.
